Including Vibration with Flexible Body Modeling
This video uses the "Reduced Order Flexible Solid" block to represent flexibility in one arm of a robotic assembly. This block receives the data produced by a Finite-Element Analysis (FEA) vibration calculation. It is labeled "Reduced Order" because it represents the flexibility only through the primary vibrational modes for this part -- hence, it still runs fast, too. A small-amplitude vibration can trigger significant positional error when included with the dynamics of the electrical motors and the controller. Hence, we assert the point that such analysis requires inclusion of mechanics, electronics and control. Of course, an important aspect of our solution is that you can do something about this problem with MATLAB/Simulink, as filters can be designed that minimize the impact of troubling resonant frequencies.
